- No governmental agency or other organization can operate as effectively, at all levels on both sides of the Border, as can SCERP.
- With diminished resources available for the Border 2012 Program, SCERP’s continuation and studies become ever more critical. SCERP’s diligence in performing environmental assessments and its involvement in remediation activities along the U.S.-Mexico border make it a regional and national asset
- A modest amount of money from the U.S. Congress directly supports research, teaching and outreach at five American public universities in five different states
- Dozens of students and faculty from engineering, as well as physical, social, and health sciences, participate in SCERP applied research and outreach activities to engage states, local communities, and people along the U.S.-Mexican border. The pragmatism created by SCERP’s interdisciplinary methods has served as an aid in identifying quality of life indicators for regional stakeholders.
- The activities of SCERP are endorsed and utilized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) at the national, regional and local levels along the border.
- All SCERP projects are American led, but require Mexican faculty and student participation so that SCERP projects build scientific, educational and technological capacity on both sides of the border.
- SCERP is addressing health, environmental, economic and security issues in one of the most underserved, yet critical regions in the U.S.
- SCERP is a transparent and fiscally responsible earmark, providing valuable service to all parties interested in US-Mexican border issues and relations
